Lane Closures and Detour Schedule

    • Monday thru Thursday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm unless otherwise noted.
    • Friday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm unless otherwise noted.

 

  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) west between I-395 and Mark Center Ave. - Left lane and left turn lane closed Monday - Friday for concrete and paving work. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a left on N. Beauregard St., left on Mark Center Dr. and follow signs to Mark Center Ave.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) west between N. Van Dorn St. and N. Beauregard St. - Right lane closed Monday - Friday for median realignment and excavation.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) east from N. Beauregard St. to I-395 - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for demolition and overhead sign installation.
  • Seminary Rd. (Route 420) east ramp to I-395 south - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for sign installation. 
  • Mark Center Ave. north and south from Mark Center Dr. to Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for sign installation. 
  • N. Beauregard St. north from Mark Center Dr. and Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for excavation.
  • N. Beauregard St. north to Seminary Rd. (Route 420) - Ramp closed beginning April 8, at 9 a.m. through May 2013 for excavation. During the long term closure, traffic will be directed to make a right on Mark Center Dr., left on Mark Center Ave., and follow signs to Seminary Rd. (Route 420).

  • Closures occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday - Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted.

 

  • Seminary Road (Route 420) west between I-395 and Mark Center Avenue - Left lane and left turn lane closed Monday - Friday for concrete and paving work. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a left on N. Beauregard Street, left on Mark Center Drive and follow signs to Mark Center Avenue.

 

  • Seminary Road (Route 420) west between N. Van Dorn Street and N. Beauregard Street - Right lane closed Monday - Friday for median realignment and excavation.

 

  • Seminary Road (Route 420) east from N. Beauregard Street to I-395 - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for demolition and overhead sign installation.

  • Seminary Road (Route 420) east ramp to I-395 south - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for sign installation.

 

  • Mark Center Avenue north and south from Mark Center Drive to Seminary Road (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for sign installation.

 

  • N. Beauregard Street north from Mark Center Drive and Seminary Road (Route 420) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for excavation.

 

  • N. Beauregard Street north to Seminary Road (Route 420) - Ramp closed beginning April 8th at 9:00 am through May 2013 for excavation.  During the long-term closure, traffic will be directed to make a right on Mark Center Drive, left on Mark Center Avenue, and follow signs to Seminary Road (Route 420).
  • Traffic Controls:  Barriers, barrels & signs will be placed & removed on-site.
  • Surveying:  Survey crews will be marking proposed roadway.
  • Miss Utility:  Utility companies will be marking utilities in the road and grass.

Project Information

The design and construction of the short and mid-term infrastructure improvements associated with the Mark Center Complex is located in Alexandria, VA at the intersections of Mark Center Ave. with Seminary Rd. and North Beauregard St.; adjacent to the Seminary Rd. Interchange with I-395. The Mark Center project has an extremely aggressive schedule of 454 calendar days.  The D-B Team will complete the following work, as directed by the EFLHD:

SHORT-TERM IMPROVEMENTS

Construction July 2012 / Opens September 2012

  • Seminary Rd. and I-395S Off Ramp - Widen the Seminary Rd. Westbound approach and gore area from the rotary to the Mark Center Ave. intersection from one to two lanes. Restripe the Westbound Seminary Rd. flyover to allow one through lane on Seminary Rd. and one left turn lane into Mark Center.

  • Seminary Rd./Mark Center Ave. Intersection - Widen the Eastbound Seminary Rd. approach to Mark Center Ave. to allow three through lanes. Widen the Northbound Mark Center Ave. approach to four lanes to allow three right turn lanes and one through/left lane.

  • I-395 S On-Ramp - Widen Eastbound Seminary Rd. and the Southbound I-395 S on ramp from Mark Center Ave. to the ramp meter signal to provide a continuous two lane ramp from Seminary Rd. to the ramp meter. Restripe the Southbound ramp connection from the rotary to provide a merge into the two lane ramp from Eastbound Seminary Rd.

MID-TERM IMPROVEMENTS

Construction March 2013 / Opens July 2013

  • Seminary Rd. Turn Lane - Widen Seminary Road to provide a dedicated right turn lane from Westbound Seminary Rd. to Southern Towers. 

  • Seminary Rd./North Beauregard St. Intersection - Widen Westbound Seminary Rd. to provide a deceleration lane and widen Northbound Beauregard St. to provide an acceleration lane for the Westbound to Northbound right turn lane.

  • North Beauregard St. Turn Lane - Widen Northbound Beauregard Street between Mark Center Dr. and Seminary Rd. to provide a dedicated right turn lane at the Northbound approach to Seminary Road after the direct connect ramp from Northbound Beauregard St. to Eastbound Seminary Rd.
